About the Artist
California-based indie singer-songwriter LOUIZA is more than just an accomplished musician, though she has already proved that several times over. Having released several albums, including Party Trick, Swim at Night, On, Off, and White Light, her discography captures the spectrum of human essence in all its playfulness, boldness, and beauty.
But more than this are her potent lyrical musings on the malaise of modernity. Her most recent singles, “Burn Out,” “The One You Lost,” and “Blood Sweat Rinse Repeat,” explore themes such as the impact of late-stage capitalism on our self-worth, the oppression of women in politics and culture, and the toxic nature of assuming that people are ‘born with it’.
As LOUIZA continues to push the boundaries of her musical expression and explore new ideas, audiences can expect to be moved and inspired by her fresh sound and perspective.
Background
Born and raised in Marin County, LOUIZA grew up on music and has been singing since she can remember. She attended Marin Academy for high school before studying Classical voice at Skidmore, then transferred to the New School for Jazz in NYC, where she earned her BFA.
LOUIZA’s creative process is playful and happens everywhere: whether it’s in the car or hiking in the woods, even in the middle of the night. Regardless of where and when inspiration arrives, she fleshes them out with the help of her synthesizer and Ableton. Her sound is a fusion of classical technique and modern electronic music, and she draws inspiration from a wide range of genres, including blues, pop, and R&B
LOUIZA has achieved many notable accomplishments throughout her career, including playing at renowned venues such as the Rickshaw Stop, collaborating with talented musicians, and receiving glowing press for her music. But what LOUIZA hopes audiences take away from her creative projects is simple: she wants to move people with her music.
Offstage, LOUIZA grew up listening to the blues, which she credits with helping her dial into the raw emotion behind music. Recently she’s taken up dance as a hobby, which has helped her connect with her body and express her feelings in a new way. LOUIZA's curiosity for exploring American culture's internalized ideologies has been a major source of inspiration for her latest album, which she just finished recording.
LOUIZA is excited to release her latest singles. Her release show at Rickshaw Stop on June 22nd promises to be a thrilling experience, complete with immersive projections, limited edition merchandise, and what will likely be an unforgettable experience
